My Touch Typing Journey
Written by Charlotte (12) in her own words
Hello, my name is Charlotte, and I am going to tell you how touch-typing changed my life.
Picture this, I just got diagnosed with dyslexia at the end of Year 2, both me and my mum knew that my handwriting was very slow, so I got sent on a touch-typing course with Seth and Delia. When my mum first told me that she had signed me up for this course I really did not want to go but when my mum picked me up and asked how it was, knowing that being the picky child I was I would say I’d never want to go back, but instead I said I can’t wait to go back! After just one week of the course I new how to type at 20 words a minute and 100% accuracy!
After I finished my 1st course I wanted to go back so I made my mum sign me up for another week long intensive course. That week I ended up on 40 wpm and again, 100% accuracy. And then i went back on an other 2 courses and got my thoughts down on paper and did some advanced typing with the older group.

Touch-typing has been a big part of my life at school, if I were to write an essay it would take me around an hour but if I were to type an essay it would take me around 20 minutes. It helps me especially because I am dyslexic and find it harder to get my thoughts down on to paper.
Before I learnt how to touch type I was finding it really hard to remember spelling but when I learnt how to touch type I found that I remembered spelling patterns with more confidence.
